Words to “Liv” by | South Lyon Photographer

This is the third post in regards to the beautiful and strong young woman, Olivia.  Olivia is fighting cancer, and in my mind and the minds of others, there  is no doubt that she will beat this thing once and for all.  I knew the moment I saw a photo of Olivia, that I wanted to photograph her.  I don’t know what it was, but she just had a glow about her, and having come to know her a bit more, I realize that she really is a ray of light.  I had been hearing so many wonderful things about her, that I decided to reach out and ask those that know her to share with me what comes to mind when they think of Olivia.  I want to share with her and everyone else what an amazing young woman she is.  Below are just a few that were shared with me….these are words to “Liv” by.

I was asked the question, what does Olivia mean to you? Well that’s actually a really easy question for me. When I think about Olivia, the first word that pops in to my mind is beautiful. Olivia is the definition of beautiful. But not just the pretty kind of beautiful, it’s everything about her that makes her beautiful. It’s her soul. She brings life to a room by just being present in it. You look at her, and you can just feel her excitement about life, and you can’t help but be excited about life too. She will change your outlook on life and what it means to you. Even though life has brought many of rainy storms her way, nothing changes who she is, you just watch her as she dances through the all the rain with nothing but strength and courage. She knows there is a rainbow out there waiting for her after every storm and she isn’t stopping until she sees it. In my opinion, that’s the definition of beautiful. It’s means so much more than just having a pretty face. Olivia is the definition of beautiful, she has a beautiful soul, and it is highly contagious. Not many people will get the chance to have an Olivia enter their life, I feel very blessed to have been given the chance to see the real meaning of life through such a beautiful soul.

I have enjoyed watching Olivia grow up over the years.  There are certain kids that are your kids’ friends that you are immediately drawn to.  They can hang out at your house any day, sit at your table for any meal, babysit your little kids, house sit for you…she’s that friend!  Olivia is a dear friend to my son.  They laugh and tease and cry and care so much for each other.  She loves my younger three, too.  She would bust through a crowd of people to seek them out to say hi and give them a hug.  That’s the thing about Olivia,  she has a way to make everyone around her feel special and loved.  The smile you captured in your photographs is what you see everyday, not just in photos. Olivia shines.

Olivia is one of the most genuinely kind people that we have ever met. That sounds cliché, but if you know her, then you know it’s true. She is incredibly loyal to the people she cares about and we consider ourselves lucky to have her in our lives. There isn’t a thing she wouldn’t do for someone in need, and she is rarely seen without a smile on her face. Five seconds in a room with her would brighten anyone’s day. In fact, we cannot go too long without seeing her, as she always puts us in a good mood. We have watched her grown into an incredibly mature person who fights for what she believes in and stands her ground, and knows the importance of doing the right thing, even when it’s not the easy thing. That being said, she has never lost her sense of humor, even while dealing with the challenges that life has given her. Even in these difficult times, we find our strength in her, when in fact she should be relying on us. We try to remind her of how blessed we feel to have her in our lives but we hope that by this point this is something she knows everyone around her feels. Although we know that she has the strength within herself to fight, we hope she knows that we will always be there for her, should that strength ever waver. We love her dearly and can’t wait for her to be able to move past this experience, and toward what the future holds.

Olivia has not only achieved every perfect expectation of the greatest big sister, but also as the truest friend. My sister has always been my hero even when we were little. Through my eyes she was super woman. And now with the battles she has faced she continues to exceed the circumstances for any and all super heroes out there. She is braver, stronger, and more inspirational than anyone I’ve ever met and I’m so fortunate to call her my big sister, and I love her more than words can describe.

Olivia is one of the most caring and influential people you’ll ever meet, and really it’s a blessing to just know that she’s a part of my life. There’s just something about her that makes you smile when she’s in the room, whether it be her corny laugh or her crazy sense of humor; that may not be funny but she thinks it’s funny so ultimately it is. She doesn’t do things for show or attention, but instead does things that benefit others because she knows it the right thing to do and it will lead to someone else’s happiness. That being said, when people say that cancer can define someone, Olivia does the opposite and she defines cancer, by being optimistic, positive, and just living life when times get rough.  She is such a role model and inspiration to whoever has the opportunity to meet her. We all love you Liv.

I believe there are people who come into our lives for a reason and for me that person is Olivia. What I wouldn’t give to make this horrible cancer go away, and I pray for her every night that it does. I am so glad I was able to give her a special day to forget, if only for a few hours, that she was fighting this fight. Because of her I started wondering what I could do to give back to others like Olivia, others fighting the fight against cancer. So, I decided I want to give others that same special day that I gave Olivia.  I can give the gift of photography to those that are in the midst of, or have conquered this ugly cancer, those fighting the fight.   More information will become available soon.
